  • What is neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity is the idea that there is no one "right way" of interacting and understanding the world. The neurodiversity movement challenges the antiquated idea that various neurological differences such as autism, and ADHD are disabilities. Rather, brain imaging studies show us that their brains are wired to work differently. Not better or worse, just different. As such, these differences are not deficits that need to be treated or eliminated. • What does it mean to be neuro-diversity affirming?
Neuro-diversity affirming is the idea that individuals have differences in their abilities and how they interact in the world. These differences aren't things that need to be fixed or treated. Rather, we believe that the world should be accepting of people's differences in how they think, act, and perceive the world. As a neuro-diversity affirming therapist, I will never attempt to "cure" your child or teach them to hide their neuro-diverse traits. I strive to help children understand and accept their neurodiversity. The ultimate goal is to teach children how to be successful and comfortable in any environment through self-awareness and self-advocacy.
